These FAQ's are intended to be general questions asked of CILSCPA staff on a regular basis. As with any situation we encounter, your concern should be addressed individually, please feel free to Contact Us.

Q: Do you have an apartment I can rent?
A
: We are a non-profit, non residential service agency. Each county has a Housing Authority listed in the Blue pages of your local phone book. Contact your local Housing Authority and they will be able to help you.

Q: Where can I get information about home modifications & funding?
A:
There are many things to consider when looking to do home modifications, Contact CILSCPA for more information.

Q: My child has special learning needs, what do I do?
A
: You can request your local school for an Individualized Education Plan (I.E.P.) under the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA). Contact your local Intermediate Unit or go to the PEN web site or the D.O.E. web site

Q: I paid for an accessible parking sign for my home, but other people use my space. Is this legal?
A:
Yes, this is legal as long as the individual parking in the space has a valid PA accessible parking placard or license plate.

Q: When I go to the doctor, who is responsible for getting and paying the interpreter?
A:
The medical facility is usually responsible to pay for an interpreter, but an interpreter may not always be necessary. For further information go to the Disabilities Law Project or the ADA website.

Q: Can someone train me how to use a TTY or the PA Relay System?
A:
Our Deaf and Hard of Hearing specialist can teach you how to use both types of technology. Submit an Inquiry Form.

Q: Social Security denied my claim, what can I do?
A
: Included in your denial letter are your appeal rights. You can also contact your local County Assistance office & ask for the Social Security liaison. You can also look at the following links, the SSA web site or the Disabilities Law Project website.

Q: Is transportation available to take me to the therapist?
A:
Transportation may be available to you. Consult your local phone directory for the Area Agency on Aging and your local Transit Authority.

Q: Where can I get help finding a job?
A:
Go to PA Careerlink or the OVR web site, or use CILSCPA's Inquiry Form to contact us regarding our Job Readiness Services.

Q: Who do I contact for attendant care?
A:
CILSCPA has information that will help you get in touch with the agencies that provide this service. Fill out our Inquiry Form to obtain more information.

Q: If I ride the bus, can I still use paratransit?
A:
In most cases, yes. There may be restrictions as to when you can use paratransit or not. Check with your local Transit Authority.

Q: The supermarket told me I cannot have my certified service dog in the store. Is this true?
A:
No, under Title III of the American's with Disabilities Act (ADA), certified service animals are permitted in places of public accommodation. To learn more about your rights & responsibilities go to:

Q: Are there any types of devices that can help me with my daily living tasks?
A:
There are several supplies of assistive devices such as the Sammons web site and the ABELDATA web site. You can also fill our Inquiry Form for additional ideas
