CONTACT Altoona is pleased to announce that 2-1-1
CONTACT Altoona is pleased to announce that 2-1-1 is coming to Blair County.

What is 211?
211 is a three digit dialing code designated in 2000 by the FCC and in 2010 by the PUC to provide widespread public access to community information and referral services. 211 will be the first number people call when looking for health and human service assistance.

Who?
Any individual or agency who needs to know what health and human services are available will be able to access this information through the use of a simple, easy to remember, three digit number – 211.

211 and Pennsylvania
Currently, Pennsylvania is one of only two states that have no such system in place. Seven regions have been designated in Pennsylvania to implement 211. The Central PA Region is made up of sixteen counties, of which Blair County is a part. While the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has targeted February 11, 2011 (2-11-11) for its state-wide launch, the Central PA Region is planning a soft launch for Fall 2010.
During the summer months, staff at CONTACT Altoona will be compiling information on services available and the providers.  The Help Resource Directory of the Blair County Human Services Office is the foundation for this data collection.  Please make your staff aware that they will be contacted via mail or phone asking to verify and/or update current information.

Regional Partners and Supporting Agencies
The Central PA 211 Region has five partner agencies that have been working to provide 211 since 2007. Those agencies are CONTACT Altoona, Linkage Lycoming, Community Help Centre (Centre County), Community Action Center (Huntingdon) and Union-Snyder Community Action. The Blair County supporting agencies are Blair County Human Services Office and United Way of Blair County.
We will keep you posted as plans progress. All questions about 211 should be directed to CONTACT Altoona at 814-946-0531.
